Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
Give your children a package of post-it flags {what
we affectionately call “stickies”} and let them flag pages in their workbooks
that they might need to refer back to later. My 9yo has even labeled his flags.
I did this in all my law texts while I was in
school, and I still do this with books I’m reading.
Places we’re {not} going…
The Creation Museum. The 13yo is writing a
persuasive research paper on six-day creation. That deserves a field trip!
However, that same 13yo came down with the flu on Wednesday, so we’ve postponed
our field trip for a few days.
For her paper, we knew we couldn’t go the public
library for resources, but we’ve purchased so much from the Answers in Genesis Bookstore that she was able to find sources right off our shelves at home.
It’s a different world than when I was her age, so
her resources also include a couple of articles from the Answers in Genesis blog. Is anyone else astounded by the changes in technology since we were in school?
My favorite thing this week was…
Holly, my thirteen-year-old, squealed in soprano
when she saw what we got in the mail from Lilla Rose on Monday.
I know that doesn’t have much to do with
homeschooling, except for the interruption it provided. J
What’s working for us…
We finally organized my just-now-seven-year-old and
her homeschool materials. My handyman Mr. put the shelf in her cubby upright,
so we got her books standing up and in the right order. I didn’t think
to take a before picture of the cubby itself, so just imagine that mess on the
floor stacked up in and flowing out of the cubby.
We’re looking forward to…
President’s Day this coming Monday. Homeschool Share
has a free download for a President’s Day lapbook template. We’re definitely doing
that! We’ll probably also listen to the Adventures in Odyssey audio programs on For God and Country
. It’s a dynamic
way to learn of both the American Revolution and President Lincoln. In the afternoon, I’ll
sit down with the Bigs and we’ll watch some of The History Channel Presents The Presidents
DVD series, particularly the
segments about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

I love the Post-it idea! I just started doing that this year and it saves a lot of searching through pages while the kids wait...or for them to find something they need. Super simply, but beneficial!

Valentine's Day? Well, we went to the local ice cream parlor and got HUGE, but FREE sundaes and then went ice skating! We'll be visiting family on President's Day or maybe seeing some friends who moved away. Vacation week!

DeleteI love post it flags too...I can't remember how we ever got by without them before I made the discovery of how useful they are. We use them as bookmarks in any old book we are reading too -- they are so much less likely to fall out!
