Snazz Up Plain Sandals – My Daughter’s Modest Monday

You are going to love this do-it-yourself idea, and it doesn’t require any tool other than a glue gun. J

My daughters and I were shopping for fancy strappy white sandals recently and couldn’t find anything that was exactly right. You know how that goes. At our last stop {out of waaay too many J}, we found these plenty-strappy sandals, but they were a little plain.

They were comfortable and nice, but they lacked that certain je ne sais quoi.

Well, why not add that bit of snazz, that distinctive I-don’t-know-what? Who says the sandal has to stay the way it is in the store? J

All it takes is a hot glue gun and your embellishment of choice.

We headed to Michaels and quickly found some white fabric flowers that dressed up the sandal perfectly.

I only have two cautions for you. First, try out the placement of the embellishment before you start gluing. J Second, glue guns are extremely hot and should only be used by adults.

Wouldn’t it be fun to snazz up a pair of sandals for a particular outfit? When we were shopping for fabric flowers, we saw red checked flowers with green leaves, purple organza flowers, and bright pink blooms.

What an amazing way to coordinate your footwear!

You could also glue on sequins, beads, buttons, or bows. Ratchet up your imagination and have fun! J

What the 12yo wore ~

White skirt ~ thrift store half-off day ~ Love the detail on the hem! J
White tee-shirt ~ umm…Wal-Mart? J
Pink wrap ~ “borrowed” from me, originally from Sam's Club
Fabric flower ~ crafted by us
Sandals ~ Shoe Carnival and then embellished J

Lilla Rose flexi ~ dropped bun in a size large Music Lover flexi

Do you add embellishments with a hot glue gun? What are your favorites? If you haven’t, would you like to try it?

  2. Darling sandals! My favorite pair from last summer bit the dust awhile ago--they were perfect, with a lovely beaded placket over the top of the foot. I searched and searched for a new similar pair, but no luck! So I got creative and did something kind of like you did--I cut the beaded placket off the old pair, found a new plain pair of sandals, and sewed the old beaded piece onto the new sandals. Perfect! Thank you for sharing a great idea!

    1. That's a wonderful idea, Sarah Marie, and even better that you didn't go buy the embellishment but used something you already loved. Thanks so much for commenting. Love it!! :-)
